Dear Rural
Library Project:
This memo is to
express our gratitude for the commercial
library shelving that was stored and
donated for Lighthouse Library, a
community library for the small Kansas
town of Dexter Kansas – sponsored by
ECCRC, a 501-C non-profit community
resource center it its seventh year of
operation in Cowley County, Kansas.
On September 19,
2009, we met your representative, Mr.
Daniel White in Memphis, Tennessee where
he had driven the shelving in a U-Haul.
We appreciate the costs involved for
both the U-Haul rental and Mr. White’s
trip back to Atlanta, Georgia. We then
rented the U-Haul for the trip to
Dexter, Kansas. The shelving is now at
the Lighthouse Library site and will be
installed as soon as the front library
is completed.
Mr. White has
been a constant encourager as we worked
on this long and difficult project. We
have been in association for the past
three years via e-mail. As your team is
probably aware, there is often little
encouragement for rural library projects
and even less funding available. The
donation of the shelving which is valued
at $10,000 is greatly appreciated. The
other involved costs which include the
storage fees on the shelving and the
hauling fees to get it half-way to
Kansas are equally appreciated. We
appreciate others who are involved in
this donation including the original
donor of the shelving – the Woodruff
Library at Emory University.
We will keep you
updated on our project which has a
proposed opening date of the weekend
after Thanksgiving of this year. We need
to raise the funds to complete the
project which we estimate at $5,500.
These funds include the cost to put in
the ceiling of the library and the
insulation. Your interest is a constant
encourager. On behalf of ECCRC and the
town of Dexter, Kansas – thank you for
providing the shelving for Lighthouse
Library.
Sincerely,
Lynn Pettigrew
